Writer's Block: Public Transit Nightmare

What has been your worst experience on public transit?
On the subway, maybe a year ago:  I had long hair and a good chunk of it somehow got caught on the cheap metal "PRADA" (yeah, right)  tag of some woman's purse as she was walking by.   It was crowded, and the train was moving, so I couldn't move with her.  My friends, her friends, and various other people were yelling at her to stop walking but she didn't look at what was happening and just told them that she could move if she wanted to.  All I could do was cry because it hurt so much.  Eventually the tag popped off (it was likely a knockoff purse, because they sell a lot in that area) and I was able to get it out of my hair -- with a large handful hair that had been yanked out by it.  Her friend had finally stopped her, so I walked up and handed her the tag.  NOT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST APOLOGY.  I hope that it ripped that damn purse.

ok, I'm hopping on my soapbox for a sec...

Congress Poised to Pass Bill Taking Away Your Right to Know What's in Your Food

Fight for honest food labels!

The House will vote March 2, 2006 on a bill that would gut state food safety and labeling laws. This makes it easier for big food corporations to hide some nasty ingredients (like known carcinogens!!) in your food.

This not only will allows us to be exposed to known toxins without our consent or knowledge, but is also a huge risk for people with certain food allergies.

Please read, and contact your state rep via --> THIS SITE <-- or your own direct action ASAP.
PLEASE spread the word!

Thanx,
Lau

(BTW, that site is part of a very reputable organization. Your info does not place you on any mailing lists and is only used to determine your local congressman/congresswoman and send the petition on your behalf.
EDIT: You can also go to www.house.gov to find your representative, and copy/paste the letter to your own e-mail, or call.)

A Yummy Day

So, despite the lack of a party or trick-or-treaters (we had a bag of candy just in case, but I guess they don't do that in the city), it was a good halloween.

This weekend we ended up buying a pumpkin that was a little too small for carving, but good for painting.
However, as I was looking at it today and thinking of how I wanted to decorate it, I realized that we bought a rather tasty looking sugar pumpkin.

So, instead of decorating it, I decided to make pumpkin soup for dinner. I improvised the recipe, but it was delicious. We have tons of leftovers. I toasted the seeds, of course, and those were great too (again, plenty of leftovers).

For dessert, I sauteed a couple of apples in a little butter and some maple syrup. We ate that with just a little scoop of butter pecan ice cream. Soooo yummy. (Many thanks to riverrocks for this delicious idea!)

Now the apartment smells scrumptious! We still have our little pumpkin-shaped gourd, so I could decorate that if I feel the urge. The cinnamon candle adds to the spirit and the lovely aromas.

No costumes, but overall, a good night. :)

Happy Halloween / Samhain / All Hallow's Eve ! ! ! !

can I cross my fingers yet?

Okay, GOOD news!

The second place where I had an interview last week (the one that is close by, not the one with the guy that I have had some trouble contacting this week), just called me.
This time it was their HR department. The person who interviewed me last week (who would be my boss) forwarded my information to them and they are calling me in for a second interview, with them. This is for next Wednesday, and they want me to bring stuff like my references and proof of my highest level of eduation. This all sounds good to me. :)

Seriously, I am trying not to curse myself by being too hopeful (yeah, I know, I'm weird like that), but this is good sign, right??

grr...
I didn't even get his secretary this time
