"straight suits, they don't understand
she tried, that one with the alligator boots
but the other side drew her in...

...heart falling fast when she left
even the milky way was dressed in black...

...they can't be what they can't believe
they can't see what you see..."

how can anyone truely "know" the reality of something, when that particular quality is essentially a subjective opinion?

I have previously gone along with the common belief that the "reality" of that particular quality would be the general concensus of what the "correct" opinion would be. When someone disagrees, their view is "distorted"...

But what if the "distorted" view is the true reality? I suppose you could say that everyone should just think completely for themselves, and stand firm with their independent opinion. I really don't believe that is possible to have an entirely uninfluence opinion. There must be some form of basis for the opinion.

Also, what if the "distorted" view is one which ultimately tears away at the person's self-identity, promoting a surging feeling of self-hate?

I believe that no one can honestly "correct" a person's perspective.
They must change it for themselves.
I don't know...

Re: Datura
As you would expect, I get that question a lot.
The answer is:
No, I have never done datura.
I have been just generally fascinated with the plant for a while though...

The flower and it's name are absolutely beautiful; and it offers some spiritual and medical healing, or a temporary escape from reality... yet just a bit too much of it and *zap* -- someone could be stuck in what would pretty much be a permanent trip (brain damage, basically), or die.

Datura is such a great analogy for so many things in life, if you think about it... Or maybe that's just me...

"Datura" is also a great song by one of my favorite artists -- Tori Amos. I like how she uses it in her song. check out this page for her explanation of the song...

ok, that's probably a much longer explanation than you anticipated, so I'll shut up now...

what if there is no reality? What if everything we see, everything we touch, taste, hear, feel, is just a hallucination? What if we're tied down to a bed in some institute, living our entire lives in our twisted mind?

There is absolutely nothing I know for sure about reality at all. The only thing I am 100% sure of is that I exist... everything else (including yourself) could be a figment of my imagination. (I say COULD BE... that doesn't mean I actually believe it... but I can't say I'm sure of the other choice either). Scary stuff...
