We checked out 9 apts.
I didn't like the studios very much. Josh and I would be at each other's throats, in my opinion. So small. And SO expensive! I don't think we have quite enough money to get something decent in Brooklyn Heights. All but one of them seemed to be falling apart. Granted, two of them were in the process of being renovated but geez.
There was a one bedroom apt in Bay Ridge that I absolutely loved. It had everything we wanted. It was big, set up nicely, had beautiful hardwood floors, accepted pets, had laundry facilities on each floor... There were huge windows that let in a ton of sunlight, lots of counter space in the kitchen, a dishwasher... And it cost LESS than all of the Brooklyn Heights studios we checked out!
But... it would be farther away from Manhattan (about 45 min train ride). *sigh*
Josh said that he doesn't mind too much but he worries that I might get a job in Manhattan that would be an even longer commute.
We are considering pooling our money with Josh's friend (the one that got him the job) and his girlfriend and getting a nicer 2 bed 2 bath. They were looking specifically in Manhattan, which we wouldn't mind either (if we can afford it), but we are trying to talk them into Brooklyn.
So the hunt goes on...
